Really only frequented by those looking to escape all forms of crowds, Pata Prieta's secluded shores are perfect for anyone hoping for privacy and quiet. This does not mean that one cannot have fun here, the long beach and gentle waters are great for exploring, with the forest rich in plant and wildlife, and the sea full of aquatic life.
Located toward the center of the island of Vieques, Pata Prieta is on the Southeast coast of the island, You should consider stopping by even if you are not staying nearby.
While drivers will be able to park decently close to Pata Prieta, they will still have to take a hike through the woods to get there. A popular alternative is to skip the forest and take a boat right into the bay. If you do decide to travel by land, you will need to cut through the national forest. Luckily signs in the park will lead you right to the beach.
Those visiting the beach are likely to find a large stone here and there, but for the most part the beach is clear of any hazards or debris. Rather, the long arcing beach is simply a quiet, safe, and sunny place to enjoy the day.
Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available. You will find the water here is of good snorkeling quality, so bring your gear if you want to see the underwater world.

Pata Prieta is near, so exploring the city is a convenient option. The closest town is Vieques Town, which is in an area with plenty of worthwhile sites, while still remaining less developed and congested as some other places. From the beach, Vieques Town isn't far off, about three and a half miles (six kilometers).
Whether this spot is full of bodies or practically empty will be influenced by everything from the time of day to the capacity of nearby hotels. There aren't many large hotels in the immediate vicinity, but you may see visitors from some of the smaller accommodations in the area.
