Puerto Diablo

Puerto Diablo, on the eastern end of Isla de Vieques is closed to the public, but it remains a gorgeous stretch of sand that many visitors are willing to sail close to shore just to catch a glimpse.

Puerto Diablo is a white sand beach with crystal clear waters and trees lining the shore. It is a bit rocky here, and the numerous local birds gathering on the rocks is a sight to behold.

Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business.

Puerto Diablo offers an idyllic and relaxing haven, in part because the location that surrounds the beach won't be overly crowded.

You'll find this beach on the East coast of Vieques. It's located near Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, which is situated seven miles to the south west, and it is one of a few attractions close-by.

If you're interested in combining a little culture with your trip to the beach, you should consider a trip to Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust. This museum is located only a cab ride away, giving beachgoers the chance to escape that hot midday sunshine.

Cities and Towns

Puerto Diablo is very close to Isabel Segunda, so touring the city could be a fun side-trip after visiting the beach. Isabel Segunda is the closest city and is an interesting area that brings together the quietude of the Caribbean and the urbanization of city life. From the beach, Isabel Segunda is a little ways off, maybe seven miles (11 and a half kilometers) away.


Whether or not you encounter many other people will depend on how many hotel guests decide to make the trip as well. There aren't many major hotels nearby, but it's often visited by visitors from some of the smaller accommodations in the area.

You might not find any places to eat in the vicinity of this shore, so it would be a good idea to plan a picnic if you want to fully enjoy your day in the sun.

Other Beaches

Vieques has many nice beaches, so perhaps you can explore more than one.

Another location you might enjoy is Naguabo Beach, situated 25 and a half miles away. But, if you're interested in a more active beach, Bahia Jalova may be just what you're looking for. It's found a mile and a half to the south.

Travelers may also want to consider El Gallito, which is located nine and a half miles to the west.

Puerto Rico has plenty to offer its visitors, and paying a visit to Puerto Diablo is just one way you can spend your afternoon.
