Because of the strong gusts of wind at Anse des Sables, the area is particularly popular for windsurfing. Flanked by Vieux Fort Bluff and looking out onto Maria Major Island, there are splendid views in all directions at this tropical paradise. This is a great place to head for those staying on the southern part of the island.
Located a couple hundred yards east-northeast of downtown Vieux Fort, Anse des Sables is on the South coast of Saint Lucia. You might think about stopping by regardless of whether you are staying very close. Though there are a lot of choices to be made on vacation, choosing the right beach can make all the difference. St. Lucia is full of fun options, like Anse des Sables.
No matter which direction you're coming from on the island, you'll need to go south around Hewanorra International Airport, which can be done using the roads along either coast. Once south of the airport, the beach is right along, and can be accessed from, the St Judes Hyw on the eastern coast.
Anse des Sables is a far-reaching stretch of white sand beach, which opens out into a shallow bay on the southern end on the island. This windward beach is located on the Atlantic side of St. Lucia, so you may experience strong gusts from the trade winds. The water, though, is protected by reefs and is crystal clear.
Of course, there is also a restaurant located right on-site. There are several types of dining experiences to be enjoyed on St. Lucia, but dining at the beach can be a particularly memorable one. Sometimes, hotels offer to pack up on-the-go lunches for their guests. Or, it would be easy to grab some hot food from a street vendor or casual cafe along the way.
Many visitors find themselves ordering a drink or snack from the concessions here, even if they move off-site for lunch. You may also have the option to purchase food from one of the mobile vendors who typically set up at this spot.
Please note that public restrooms are not available, which is something to consider if you plan to spend a full day in the sun.
Anse des Sables is always a lovely side-trip when you're in the area. Look for it on St. Lucia's South coast; the area hosts attractions such as, which is not very far away, so visitors have the option to walk or to take a cab.

Anse des Sables is in the Vieux Fort area, so exploring the city is a convenient option. The closest town is Vieux Fort, which is in an area with interesting things to do and see, but isn't as sprawling and crowded as some other areas. From Anse des Sables, Vieux Fort is just up the road, maybe a half mile (three quarters of a kilometer).
The crowdedness of the shoreline can vary widely, it depends on many factors: the time of sundown, happy hour, even how full nearby hotel rooms are. There aren't many large hotels in the immediate vicinity, but it's sometimes enjoyed by guests staying at the few small lodgings in the area.

It's no problem if you start to get the munchies while hanging out at Anse des Sables; you'll have many local dishes to choose from at nearby establishments. One of the nearest places to eat is The Reef Beach Cafe. This restaurant offers both Creole and International cuisines. They are also famous for their hamburgers and seafood. When you start to get hungry, you won't need to wait too long to eat as it's only a short distance away.
