Nature Preserves and Hiking

Copper Mine National Park

Do you enjoy being outdoors? You may be pleased to know the island has quite a number of nature preserves on it and nearby.

Copper Mine National Park is a great nature preserve located within southwestern Virgin Gorda. A sign detailing the sites history marks the beginning of Copper Mine National Park. Comrpised of stone ruins of a shimney, mine shaft house, and cistern, there are several trails that snake through the ruins, and a few grassy spots on the hill that are perfect for picnicking.

Travelers looking to find a another great natural attraction will be interested in seeing choices like Prickly Pear National Park. Prickly Pear National Park is an important habitat for a number of marine animals in the British Virgin Islands. These include sea urchins and fish, and also migratory birds.

Spring Bay National Park: Just east of one of Virgin Gorda's most popular attractions, the Baths, is Spring Bay. Established in 1964 as a National Park, this spot is favored for snorkeling and picnicking.

Parks

Travelers can spend some time in either of two parks on Virgin Gorda.

Little Fort National Park is Spanish Town, in southwestern Virgin Gorda. Justin behind an old post office in Fort Point are the ruins of a small fort that is not easily accessed by those who don't know the area. Established as a national park in 1978, it was done in order to protect local wildlife.

A second popular attraction in this category is Devil's Bay National Park. Located in the Valley, Devil's Bay National Park is often visited by tourists who pass through on their way to the Baths, which is just a a short walk from the park. Devil's Bay National Park was established in 1964,
