Prickly Pear National Park

Established in 1988, Prickly Pear National Park offers a varied experience for tourists. Trails, mangroves, and beaches mean you can explore, view important wild life, swim and snorkel, or do it all during your day in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda.

The trail through the hills between Sand Box Bar and North Beach is covered with cacti, hence the name prickly pear. The low lying areas of the park feature four salt ponds of white and black mangroves.

Prickly Pear National Park is an important habitat for a number of marine animals in the British Virgin Islands. These include sea urchins and fish, and also migratory birds. A hiking trail leads from Sand Box Bar to North Beach.
