Savannah Bay, located on Virgin Gorda, provides an incredible beach experience. The generous stretch of soft sand provides visitors with the perfect place to lay back and the lack of development almost guarantees that the beach will be free of tourists. The area is accessible by a dirt path off of the island's main road.

Situated near the heart of the island of Virgin Gorda, 3.3 miles south west of Leverick Bay, Savannah Bay is on the South West coast of the island, You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying particularly close by. The beaches in the Virgin Islands aren't usually known for their peace and quiet, but Savannah Bay is less exposed than the others, which offers some middle ground to those who'd like a less hectic scene, but one that's not completely empty.

How to Access The Beach

Access to the beach area is provided by a dirt path off of the island's main road (North Sound Road). It is recommended that drivers utilize a car with four-wheel drive to access the small parking area a few yards short of the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

Savannah Bay is a meandering, long stretch of white sand that is situated in north central Virgin Gorda. The pristine beach is backed by lush vegetation and leads down to sparkling aqua waters. Reefs off of the coast make for excellent snorkeling, while the beautiful shallow waters invite visitors to jump in.

Even if you plan to dine elsewhere, the snack bar on-site could come in handy. If available, you could also order some food from one of the local vendors who are typically found at this location.

Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, which is something to consider if you plan to spend a full day in the sun. The water in the area is clear and good for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some gear if you're hoping to find some interesting marine life. Savannah Bay is a quiet beach that doesn't get too crowded, so visitors don't have to worry about not finding a spot to settle down.

Cities and Towns

Savannah Bay is near Spanish Town, so walking the city is a definite option. The nearby town of Spanish Town is noted for its balance between seclusion and urbanization. From the coast, Spanish Town isn't far off, about one and a quarter miles (two kilometers).


The crowdedness of the shoreline can vary widely, depending on everything from the time of day to how full the nearby hotels are. There aren't many major hotels nearby, but it's sometimes enjoyed by guests from the few small lodgings in the area.

There are plenty of beautiful beach locations to choose from on Virgin Gorda, so Savannah Bay is not your only option.

You might also enjoy Leverick Bay, situated a quick car or cab ride away. If you're on the lookout for more active and social, you might find that Nail Bay is just right. It's found two and a half miles to the north-northeast.

Vacationers may also want to visit Little Dix Bay, which is located three quarters of a mile to the west-southwest.

Of course, there are lots of other things to do and see in the Virgin Islands; then again, taking a swim at Savannah Bay is certainly a fun way to enjoy the area's natural attractions.
