Savannah Bay, located on Virgin Gorda, provides an incredible beach experience. The generous stretch of soft sand provides visitors with the perfect place to lay back and the lack of development almost guarantees that the beach will be free of tourists. The area is accessible by a dirt path off of the island's main road.

Situated on the island of Virgin Gorda, 3.3 miles south west of Leverick Bay, Savannah Bay is on the South West edge of the island, You should consider stopping by even if you aren't staying in the immediate vicinity. The Virgin Islands' beaches are pretty busy for the most part, but you'll find Savannah Bay to be a little calmer than most, making it a good choice for travelers who'd prefer to stay out of the busiest areas.

How to Access The Beach
Access to the beach area is provided by a dirt path off of the island's main road (North Sound Road). It is recommended that drivers utilize a car with four-wheel drive to access the small parking area a few yards short of the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

Savannah Bay is a meandering, long stretch of white sand that is situated in north central Virgin Gorda. The pristine beach is backed by lush vegetation and leads down to sparkling aqua waters. Reefs off of the coast make for excellent snorkeling, while the beautiful shallow waters invite visitors to jump in.

There is also a concession stand available. On some days, it may be possible to order lunch from one of the local vendors who typically operate along this coastline.

Please note that public restrooms are not available, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. The water in the area is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring along some equipment if you're hoping to find some interesting marine life. Savannah Bay is a quiet beach that doesn't get too crowded, so visitors don't have to worry about not finding a spot to settle down.

This beach is positioned on the South West coast of Virgin Gorda; it's located near attractions like Old Methodist Church, which is not very far away, so you may choose to walk to this destination, while some will prefer to take a cab.

The nearby town of Spanish Town is a neat region that strikes a balance between island tranquility and urbanization. From the shore, Spanish Town is a quick trip away, roughly one and a quarter miles (two kilometers).

The crowdedness of the shoreline can vary widely, depending on everything from the time the sun sets to how full nearby hotel rooms are. There are not many large hotels nearby, but it can appeal to guests from smaller lodgings in the area.

Food

A trip to the beach isn't complete until you try a local restaurant, where you'll be able to sample the local chefs' favorite dishes, without straying too far from your current location. Giorgio's Table is one of the closest eateries. The restaurant features Italian food.

Other Beaches

There are other beaches on Virgin Gorda you might like besides Savannah Bay.

Another location you might enjoy is Leverick Bay, situated a short taxi ride away. More active guests, though, may be interested in Nail Bay, which offers a little more opportunity for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. You'll find it two and a half miles to the north-northeast.

Another option worth considering is Little Dix Bay, located three quarters of a mile away.

Of course, there is much more to do besides lounge on the sand in the Virgin Islands, but Savannah Bay is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
