Flying to Willemstad

Flying to Willemstad has never been so easy

After extensive renovations to the island's international airport, Curacao is now a more popular destination with international air carriers.  The airport itself is just moments away from Willemstad, a bonus for tourists traveling to this city who perhaps don't want to have to drive a great distance before they can check into their accommodations and get their vacation started.

Hato International

Curacao's airport is the Hato International Airport (CUR) is located in Plaza Margareth Abraham which is about 20 minutes from the center of the city.  The runway is over 11,000 feet long and can accommodate five jumbo jets at one time with additional parking for 12 small aircrafts.  Inside the airport travelers have access to automatic baggage claim, a VIP lounge, a shopping mall, and a food court.

One thing travelers will want to be aware is is the new passenger facility fee and landing fee that tourists will have to pay to visit the island by plane.  Each passenger pays $6, while those traveling to Bonaire will also have to pay $10, those traveling to Aruba and Sint Maarten pay an additional $20, and those traveling anywhere else will pay $39(USD).  These costs are typically added to the cost of your plane ticket, but it is best to be prepared to pay in the event that it is not.

Flying to Willemstad from the US

Most people who travel to Curacao regularly know about the direct flight with American Airlines from Miami, Florida.  Fewer are aware that there is also a flight out of North Carolina with InselAir.  Both of these airports are busy international airports, so planning a connecting fight should not be too much of a hassle.

For those who live in the U.S. the following table may be of help. Online booking engines don't necessarily show the most logical options so it's useful to realize which airlines actually offer direct service to this airport.
