Willemstad Ferries

The ferry from Willemstad encourages tourists to take advantage of shopping opportunities

Ferries are important in the Caribbean, often connecting countries with several different islands to one another without the expense of air travel.  While Curacao is not exactly in need of this type of transportation, there is a ferry available for tourists who are looking for a unique way to travel between Willemstad and Otrabanda.

Riding the Ferries

To encourage Willemstad's tourists to travel to Otrabanda for some duty free shopping, a ferry service was created for faster transportation between the two towns.  This is one of the most popular transportation options on the island because not only does it travel to a top tourist destination, but it allows for a scenic and relaxing trip.

Check the following chart for ferry details.

As you make the crossing, you'll be treated to a view of the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge, which is the largest pedestrian bridge in the world, and another way to cross between the two major shopping destinations.  The ferry itself is free, making it an even more desirable mode of transport.  There is no set ferry schedule.  The boat just continues to travel back and forth between the Punda Ferry Dock and Otrobanda Ferry Dock all through the day.

Of course, you don't have to spend your day shopping exclusively to use the ferry.  This is a great opportunity to get in some sightseeing.  Whatever reason you have for hopping aboard, this ferry is a great option for tourists to have available to them.
