A UNESCO world heritage site, the 1635 Fort Amsterdam is considered to be the most important of the eight forts on Curacao -- perhaps because it actually saw battle, but it could also be that it is well-restored (yet still not the most well-restored on the island), or even that it is set in a popular district of the island and thus gets a lot of foot traffic.
Fort Amsterdam houses the United Protestant Church, the Ministry, the Governor's residence, several government offices, and a small museums. One point of note is the southwest wall, where a cannon ball fired by Captain Blight's troops is located.
Fort Amsterdam is easily recognizable, due to the location of the bright yellow Fort Church that stands at the front entrance. The fort itself is built around a central courtyard and protects several facilities within its walls
Fort Amsterdam is located in downtown Willemstad, ensuring those visiting this area of Curaçao will be excited to have easy site access throughout their trip. If you'd like to stay somewhere close to this historical site, you'll enjoy a moderate variety of lodgings to choose from nearby.
