Unfortunately, taxis are not as easy to come by in Xpu Ha as they are elsewhere in the Mexican Caribbean, so it is not recommended that you plan to use this service as your main source of transportation unless you want to spend your time calling for a taxi every time you need a ride.
When you do encounter a taxi in Xpu Ha, you'll know it right away. These vehicles are white hatchbacks with a colored stripe down the side and a four digit number that you should pay attention to. If you lose an item in a taxi or need to call and praise or complain about your driver, this is the number that will help you to do so.

One of the most important things to know about hiring a taxi in Xpu Ha is that the drivers almost exclusively speak Spanish, though some will throw out a few phrases here and there. The language barrier is not a tough one to overcome, fortunately. Simply write down your destination on a piece of paper and give it to your driver so he or she knows exactly where to take you.
The rates for taxis in Xpu Ha and all of the Yucatan Peninsula are set in advance by the local taxi union. This is great thanks to the fact that drivers typically speak a different language than their passengers, and negotiating a price would be a very difficult feat indeed. Drivers will always have the rate card on hand for you to review, but you may also find one at the front desk of your hotel as well. It is still a good idea to try and confirm the price with your driver just so that there are no surprises.
The following table lists typical taxi fares for the area.

|$ 14.00 - $ 20.00||Downtown Playa Del Carmen||Xpu Ha|
When preparing your budget, make sure to keep gratuities in mind. Most driver are happy with just 10 pesos, which is only about $0.90(USD), but you can feel free to tip more or less based on your experience.
There isn't much to be said about taxis in Yucatan Peninsula because the service is not as popular here as other locations, but it does still serve as a option to consider as you're making plans to visit.
