Yabucoa Attractions

The hilly, forested area that surrounds the southeast town of Yabucoa sets a unique tone that continues all the way to the shore.  Walking onto many area beaches feels like you're emerging from the jungle onto an oasis of gorgeous white sand and cool, clear waters.  Back on land, most of the attractions deal with nature, though there are a few of cultural significance as well as a singular gaming center for those who like to gamble on vacation.

Beaches

Maunabo Beach

You'll find a large selection of beaches to choose from in and around the area. Click on the beach names to get additional information about that section of the coast.

Maunabo Beach: From San Juan, take Route 52 to Ponce, then Route 53 to Maunabo. From there, Road 760 will take you to the coast. Once you have found your beach of choice, you will have to park along the road and take the sandy footpath to the shore.

Another location to consider is Puerto Yabucoa. With the area known for the rich and fertile soil, you can bet that Puerto Yabucoa is a beach shrouded by a wall of trees (much like the rest of the region). This helps give the beach a much more natural feel than it really is; located just steps from from homes, baseball fields, and other marks of civilization.

Emajagua Beach: Emajagua Beach is located just off Highway 3 which runs alongside the coast on one side and the forest on the other.

These examples are merely a few of the options worth consideration To read about other beaches available, click here.

If the functional aspects of life by the sea intrigue you, consider heading to Punta Tuna Lighthouse. Still actively providing light to help water crafts navigate through the dark waters of Puerto Rico at night, the Punta Tuna Lighthouse fell into serious disrepair after the Coast Guard ceased control of it. Today, the light house is being rebuilt, but the project is slow going.
