The hilly, forested area that surrounds the southeast town of Yabucoa sets a unique tone that continues all the way to the shore. Walking onto many area beaches feels like you're emerging from the jungle onto an oasis of gorgeous white sand and cool, clear waters. Back on land, most of the attractions deal with nature, though there are a few of cultural significance as well as a singular gaming center for those who like to gamble on vacation.
There are several beaches to consider in and around the area. You can click on each beach name for more detail concerning that individual beach.
Maunabo Beach: Nestled between the mountains of southeast Puerto Rico is a sleepy little town known as Maunabo. Within this town there are three beaches: Faro Punta Tuna, Playa Faro, and Los Bohios.
Another location that beach-goers can consider is Puerto Yabucoa. With the area known for the rich and fertile soil, you can bet that Puerto Yabucoa is a beach shrouded by a wall of trees (much like the rest of the region). This helps give the beach a much more natural feel than it really is; located just steps from from homes, baseball fields, and other marks of civilization.
Emajagua Beach: Coconut palms line the shore of Emajagua Beach, and just behind the trees is a cluster of homes. The sand is a golden color that shines brightly in the sun, and the waters are a deep navy blue.
