Maunabo Beach

Nestled between the mountains of southeast Puerto Rico is a sleepy little town known as Maunabo. Within this town there are three beaches: Faro Punta Tuna, Playa Faro, and Los Bohios. Although the strength of the waves vary by location and by day, this part of the island does see some of the strongest surf. Faro Punta Tuna in particular is not recommended from swimming, while the other beaches vary by day. Experienced surfers will especially love this section of coast.

Located in Emajagua, 1.5 miles east of Maunabo, Maunabo Beach is on the South East coast of Puerto Rico. You might want whether or not you're staying in the immediate vicinity. You will usually find the beach to be rather roomy, since the beach and the surroundings that call it home are not extremely crowded.

How to Access The Beach
From San Juan, take Route 52 to Ponce, then Route 53 to Maunabo. From there, Road 760 will take you to the coast. Once you have found your beach of choice, you will have to park along the road and take the sandy footpath to the shore.

Amenities and Ambiance

The beaches of Maunabo Beach enjoy soft, golden colored sand and aquamarine waters. Some notable landmarks at each beach include the Punta Tuna Lighthouse at Faro Punta Tuna, the marshes at Playa Faro, and a seafood restaurant at Los Bohios.

Unfortunately, you won't find any public restrooms along this coastline, which is something to consider if you plan to spend a full day in the sun.

If you tend to choose beach days that grant a tranquil haven, then maybe head on over to Maunabo Beach; it is tucked away within a less urbanized sector of Puerto Rico.

Other Beaches

Vacationers in search of the perfect beach will have lots of choices besides Maunabo Beach.

Another sun-drenched spot to consider is Emajagua Beach, which is located only a short distance away.

Of course, there is much more to do besides lounge on the sand in Puerto Rico, but Maunabo Beach is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
