There is no doubt that the Yucatan is known for its parties and and resorts. However, in a close second is the historic Maya ruins that have captured the imagination of tourists and archeologists alike. Even with these two thing aside though, there is much to do in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Beaches

Half Moon Bay Beach

You will discover a large number of beaches to consider in the area. Whether you prefer people watching, or you prefer having more of the sand to yourself, you can find what you want. Click on the beach names to get additional information concerning that section of the coast.

Half Moon Bay Beach: A small protected inlet that keeps waters calm and supports a rich underwater marine habitat, Half Moon Bay Beach is a great spot for snorkeling, but it is quiet and relaxing enough that you can spend a day relaxing on the shore as well.

Another location to consider is Tequilla Beach Club. A small beach that is often utilized as a day trip for cruisers, Tequilla Beach has a lot of amenities available including a restaurant and bar and wave runners that can be rented.

Playa Chacal: Exit off of Highway 200 at the "Chacala 9 Kilometers" sign. Follow the road to the beach.

These examples are only some of the available choices. You can find out more on this page.

Landmark Attractions

Chichen Itza

An interesting landmark worth visiting is Chichen Itza. It is situated in Chichen Itza, Yucatan Peninsula. Located on the Chichen Itza compound are a collection of 17 ruins waiting for visitors to explore, many of which have been restored to their former glory using the same materials as the Mayas originally did. Important structures here include El Castillo, or the Temple of Kukulcan, a massive temple with stairs running up both sides and watched over by two serpent heads.

Another popular destination is Tulum Maya Ruins. It is located in Yucatan Peninsula. One of the most visited Maya sites in the Mexican Caribbean, Tulum, was once one of the most powerful Maya cities, and served as an extensive trade network. It is also one of the few walled cities the ancient Mayas built, which is why the name Tulum, which means "Wall" in Maya is so apt.

Banquitas House of Culture: The museum at the Banquitas House of Culture features a display of Maya artifacts and shares information regarding the importance of logging and cane farming in the region.

That's not all -- there are additional places to visit. To see our page about other sites worth visiting in this area, click here.
