There is no doubt that the Yucatan is known for its parties and and resorts. However, in a close second is the historic Maya ruins that have captured the imagination of tourists and archeologists alike. Even with these two thing aside though, there is much to do in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Beaches

Half Moon Bay Beach

There are a large selection of beaches to consider visiting in the area. Whether you're looking forward to people watching, or you prefer a quieter stretch of sand, you can find what you want. Click on each beach name to read a detailed article concerning that beach.

Half Moon Bay Beach: The beach is backed by a number of privately owed condos, but that shouldn't deter guests from planning a day on this beach. The snorkeling is worth a trip, with turtles, barracudas, small fish, and even a shark on occasion.

A second alternative for beach-goers to consider is Tequilla Beach Club. A small beach that is often utilized as a day trip for cruisers, Tequilla Beach has a lot of amenities available including a restaurant and bar and wave runners that can be rented.

Playa Chacal: Chacala is one of the most underdeveloped beaches along the coast. Aside from a resort property, the beach is void of any excess. Visitors who head to this shore are doing so in order to escape the pressures of daily life and enjoy a day of seclusion in a tropical paradise.

Luckily, the area is home to quite a few other beaches to choose from in the area. If you're interested, you can find out more by visiting this page.

Landmark Attractions

Chichen Itza

A landmark worth visiting is Chichen Itza. It is located in Chichen Itza, the Yucatan Peninsula. Located on the Chichen Itza compound are a collection of 17 ruins waiting for visitors to explore, many of which have been restored to their former glory using the same materials as the Mayas originally did. Important structures here include El Castillo, or the Temple of Kukulcan, a massive temple with stairs running up both sides and watched over by two serpent heads.

If you are looking to do more sight-seeing, visit Tulum Maya Ruins. It is located in the Yucatan Peninsula. One of the most visited Maya sites in the Mexican Caribbean, Tulum, was once one of the most powerful Maya cities, and served as an extensive trade network. It is also one of the few walled cities the ancient Mayas built, which is why the name Tulum, which means "Wall" in Maya is so apt.

Banquitas House of Culture: Set along the banks of the New River is a lovely little museum and cultural center that provides guests with insight into the histories and lives of local residents, as well as provides a place for those who live in the area to come together to revel in the arts. This place is called Banquitas House of Culture.

These examples are just a sample of what's available. If you're interested, find more details about other sites worth seeing in this area on this page.
