The Ek Balam Ruins is the site of an ancient city that was likely an active native site since around 2000 BC until some time in the 1500's. The site is full of artifacts, wall paintings, and buildings. Since it is a bit further from Cancun and Cozumel, it is less crowded than some of the other, more popular, sites.

Those taking the time to visit Ek Balam will be able to explore a total of 45 distinct features of the city, from the main temple to the outer walls.
