Muyil Lagoon

Set just outside of the little known Maya ruin called Muyil is the Muyil Lagoon, which is believed to have been an important stop in maritime trade for the Mayas. Today, it is popular amongst tourists who like to take a dip after exploring the area on a hot day.


Muyil Lagoon is located 20.5 miles north-northwest of Punta Allen, a village in the Riviera Maya; it's 13.1 miles to the south west of Tulum.

Of course, one of the most enjoyable possibilities while spending a few hours exploring the area is chowing down on a meal at a restaurant within traveling distance of Muyil Lagoon. The closest place to eat to Muyil Lagoon is Memories Cafe, which is an easy to come by café. Hechizo and Mil Amores offer additional refreshment choices nearby where you have the chance to experience the flavors of the Yucatan Peninsula, and munch on some tasty cuisine.

Visitors that enjoy lagoons, and would like to see others, might consider a trip to Chunyaxche Lagoon and Napalito lagoon; the first of which is a mile and a half to the southeast of Muyil Lagoon. There are a couple other attractions nearby, including Muyil Mayan Ruin, which is less than a mile away the Riviera Maya. You might want to also think about visiting Xlapak Mayan Ruin, which is another nearby attraction.
